Contemporary or Modern?

Distinguishes those kinds which have been invented, developed, or adapted from various sources during the past 75 years and which are clearly marked by an ecpressive style quite different from that of other forms such as folk Dance, Musical comedy Dance or Ballet. No one can say exactly where or when this began, though Isadora Duncan is usually considered the pioneer of this revolutionary theatre movement.

Contemporary  choreographers covers a broad spectrum of subject and reflects the modern man’s views and understanding of the world. It connected with full or partial denial of the classical dance system and its replacement with different contemporary and modern dance systems, “Contemporary” uses more shapes and lines of classicism, whereas “Modern” would be more grounded, more earthy. The use of the body, the use of weight also defines the contemporary dance piece. The development of a personal approach brought a different attitude, which is the essential difference between the “Contemporary Dance” and “The Classic Attitude” of ballet. The individual is the Center of the Contemporary and Modern Dance. When the premise of the personal approuch is admitted, logically there can be as many dance forms as there are individual exponents. The contemporary dance is based upon the dancers relationship to time and space, to life itself. It is the personal, creative, emotional, approuch. In other arts this is called the “Subject Attitude”. And the dance idea also come from this emotional source. Form, Design, Style position dance itself proceeds or grows dynamically out of the idea. The content of Contemporary Dance and Modern Dance should be as varied as life itself, since its original aim is “Creative Freedom for the Individual”.
